Construction Lawyer & Company Secretary
Hudson has been exclusively retained by Thames Tideway to recruit a Construction Lawyer & Company Secretary to join the team in London.
About the Company
Thames Tideway, launched in August 2015, aims to deliver a new tunnel to protect the River Thames from any sewage pollution. The project is one of the largest of its type in Europe with the main construction work having started in 2016. It is expected to take 7 years to finish.
The Role
This is an ideal role is for an In house construction lawyer with experience of Company Secretary work. The successful candidate will report to the General Counsel and join a small legal team that contribute to the success of Tideway and its group companies.
The role will provide legal, regulatory and commercial advice as well as assistance to all areas of the business.
Responsibilities for the legal part of the role will include, but not be limited to;
- Providing legal advice in relation to the key NEC3 Construction and Service Contracts
- Advising on legal regulatory and commercial issues
- Providing legal input into property matters such as planning, and consents compliance
- Giving legal input into the agreements with key stakeholders (including Thames Water, Defra and Ofwat)
- Providing legal advice on the obligations under Tideway's licence and pursuant to the Water Industries Act 1991, as amended) and the Specified Infrastructure Projects Regulations 2013;
- Ensuring legal compliance across Tideway and its group companies
Company Secretary role responsibilities include:
- Providing an effective service to Tideway, its directors, the board and its group companies to ensure they are fully informed of their responsibilities
- Frequently liaising with the Chair and the non- executive directors
- Calling meetings in line with all requirements, recording minutes and actions
- Maintaining and managing electronic and paper based information centrally
The Candidate
The Ideal candidate will have/be;
- A qualified solicitor with at least 5 years PQE
- Experience of construction is essential (NEC contracting preferred, non-contentious or contentious)
- Some experience of one or more of the following areas of law;
- Public Procurement
- Property law
- Project finance
- Planning law
- Experience of working in a fast moving, commercial minded In house role would be preferable
- Experienced in managing risks while maximising commercial opportunities to obtain best outcome for Tideway.
- A recognised company secretary qualification would be advantageous
