A major engineering and technology company.

THE ROLES

The company is looking to hire two Patent Attorneys, one with 3-4 years' experience and another with 6-8 whose roles will be to manage its diverse IP portfolio and to protect new IP created by the business.

Part of the business model is the creation, protection and exploitation of intellectual property in its areas of technical expertise.

The roles will involve:

Managing prosecution of patent families in various territories, and supporting the strategy for the creation, protection and exploitation of its intellectual property.

Working with physics, mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies, and occasionally software/computer-implemented technologies.

The ability to identify and evaluate potentially patentable innovations; and to recognise and help manage internal and external drivers of technology transfer, in order to contribute to the improvement of both the profitability and the cost effectiveness of the company's IP portfolio.

Sound judgment and the ability to manage busy workloads in order to meet deadlines and business needs.

An ability to understand, and work effectively, in a complex organisation, efficiently managing multiple work streams and competing priorities.

ABOUT YOU

A qualified UK and/or European patent attorney; or a near-qualified UK and/or European attorney, with a physics background.

Experience and a strong technical background in areas which include mechanical, electro-mechanical and physics technologies. Experience in software/computer-implemented technologies will also be valuable.

Demonstrable ability in drafting and prosecuting patents and other forms of intellectual property in the technology areas outlined above.

Experience of managing the registration and protection of trademarks is also desirable.

A team player, with strong communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills.

Good influencing and negotiating skills.

Training and mentoring skills are both highly desirable.
