A consumer electronics business based in Chertsey, Surrey is looking for a maternity cover legal counsel. Duration of the FTC will be 6-9 months and the position is open now.
The incoming interim will provide contract and commercial related legal services to the Europe Office (i.e. its support functions as well as product teams) and the European subsidiaries.
Key Responsibilities will include provision of prompt and detailed legal advice in relation to relevant legal questions and documentation, in particular:
(i) Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements for Europe Office teams (e.g. inter-company finance related agreements; master service agreements and associated statements of work; pan-European outsourcing agreements; non-disclosure agreements; and end-user license agreements);
(ii) Drafting template agreements for use by European subsidiaries in order to streamline business and ensure consistency on pan-European projects / schemes;
(iii) Assisting (through the provision to the Head and Deputy Head and Head of EO Legal & Compliance of project updates and related content) as necessary with reporting to the Europe Office Management Team;
(iv) Proactively supporting European subsidiary legal teams with contract and commercial related queries. More generally, the lawyer will work with and support the Deputy Head and Head of EO Legal & Compliance, as well as being responsible for the management / development of the relevant paralegal within the Team assigned to work on contract matters.
The Legal Counsel 6-9 month FTC lawyer is expected to be patient, pragmatic, flexible, good communicators, detail focused, culturally aware/ sensitive and be able to explain legal issues in clear terms that are easily understood. They need to be able to work under their own initiative although the role is to function and be integrated within a small and close knit legal team. They need also to understand and be committed to working within an "in-house" legal environment. They need to have excellent drafting and negotiation skills. Finally, they need to be able to work/communicate with, influence and provide guidance to individuals at all levels of the organisation.
The lawyer will need to have strong experience in contract negotiation, as well as a strong overall grasp of general commercial matters; ideally the lawyer would have experience of advising global consumer products brands. In-house experience is desirable, although not required.
