Deputy Head of Legal

Established in 1833, John Menzies plc is one of Scotland’s largest companies. The Group has two operating divisions, Menzies Aviation and Menzies Distribution. Both divisions operate in sectors where success depends on providing an efficient high quality, time critical service to their customers and partners. Today the company is an international business with operations worldwide.

Menzies Aviation is a leading global provider of passenger, ramp, cargo and fuelling services, operating at 245 locations in 36 countries, supported by a team of over 35,000 highly trained people.  The business serves over 500 customers, handling over 1.2 million flights and 1.5 million tonnes of cargo per annum. Best in class safety and security is the division’s number one priority.

Menzies Distribution operates one of the largest overnight logistics networks in the UK serving customers in the press, travel and third-party logistics sectors from 43 sites across Britain and Ireland.

This is a hugely exciting time for the Group and in order to facilitate continued international growth, a new role of Deputy Head of Legal has been created.

The role

Reporting to the Group Head of Legal, you will take up a senior role within the central legal team based in Edinburgh. Implementing the highest standards of legal work to the business, you will be required to safeguard reputation and provide pragmatic legal advice to management and the global commercial teams on a range of issues. Working closely with the Group Head of Legal on the roll out of key legal initiatives, you will also act as a support for the legal team of four, displaying the highest degree of professional ethics and integrity at all times as you coach and mentor others.

You will have a proven track record ideally in an international contracting environment. A strong relationship builder, you will manage stakeholders’ demands and expectations without compromising the Group’s policies and procedures. A robust, pro-active and flexible approach is needed as you react quickly and efficiently to meet the fast moving needs of an international business. Ideally you may have gained some previous management or mentoring experience, however the ability and appetite to influence and motivate others is essential as the business continues its global expansion.
