Barrister - Regulatory/Professional Discipline - London - to £90k

Our client is recognised as one of the leading private practice firms for providing services to the healthcare sector.

It is looking to recruit a barrister to join its team specialising in defendant fitness to practise and regulatory work. The work largely involves presenting cases but also requires managing an investigatory caseload and preparing those cases for hearings before panels and committees of the relevant regulators and the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT).

This includes shorter more straightforward hearings as well as more complex cases before the SDT and sexual misconduct, dishonesty allegations/ fraud and serious instances of deficient professional performance before the statutory committees of healthcare regulatory clients.

The hearings you will be involved in are usually contested and in the majority of cases the respondents are represented, most often by counsel. It is likely that there will also be opportunities to appear in the High Court on appeals from decisions of the regulators and, depending on experience, judicial reviews and other High Court cases. On this basis, as a guide, they would expect a Barrister with a minimum of 4 years call to be suitable.

The firm has an unrivalled reputation in healthcare work with dedicated teams specialising in professional discipline work, clinical negligence, healthcare advisory and inquest cases. Partners in the department are leaders in their field. Combined with this is a friendly, collegiate approach which makes for a good working environment.
