Our client is an international law firm and they are looking for an Associate to join their highly regarded Commercial team in Bristol, focusing within the areas of Technology, Privacy and IP work. This is an exciting opportunity to join a top-tier Chambers and Legal 500 rated team and advise on high value, strategically important and often international projects within a supportive and collegiate environment.

Their Commercial group provides leading-edge business solutions to clients, ranging from high growth start-ups to multinationals and covering the entire spectrum of commercial activity. Their Bristol team has a strong reputation with large global clients requiring sophisticated cross-jurisdictional advice.

They have a great stream of work relating to developing areas of technology including online content licensing and streaming, social media, online advertising and online broadcasting.

Privacy is a busy area, not just with GDPR but also with an increasing volume of cyber related work, Big Data, Analytics and general data exploitation opportunities.

They also regularly manage large IP projects and transactions for clients based in Europe, the US and Asia, providing advice on brand protection strategy, trademarks and licensing issues. Their client base includes many leading technology and media companies. To find out more about the practice, please see the link below:

The IP/IT team covers a broad range of interesting work. They're looking for a candidate who is keen to get involved with a range of work, and potentially to be developing a focus/interest area for particular effort.

The work will vary in scale, with smaller matters being handled relatively independently by the candidate and working with other members of the team with more supervision and team-based working on larger projects.

The work will primarily be with colleagues in the Bristol office, but they regularly work with colleagues in their Reading, London and overseas offices.

Technical skills and experience

You will have a range of commercial law experience gained either at a city, national or large regional law firm recognised for its commercial law practice, or in-house. Within your commercial experience you will have worked on technology, privacy and/or IP matters – not necessarily all three. Due to the nature of the work and the structure of the team, we are looking for an Associate, although we will consider candidates with more or less experience.
