Description
The post-holder will:
- Provide expert legal advice and guidance to the organisation on a broad range of real estate issues across the range of activities. In particular, the post-holder will assume primary responsibility for some of the most complicated and valuable (from a financial or reputational standpoint) real estate transactions and will oversee and provide expert advice and guidance to the organisation on the legal aspects of those transactions and draft the key legal documents.
- Provide advice and assistance in the formulation and drafting of policies and procedures in response to changing legislative and regulatory frameworks and the business needs of the organisation and advise on the development of strategic plans.
- Identify opportunities to better manage legal risk and increase knowledge/awareness of relevant legal issues within the client base.
- Play a leading role in developing networks and managing relationships with external lawyers.
- Attend internal and external meetings, playing a leading role as the subject matter expert and point of reference for expert opinion in relation to the real estate issues influencing and shaping decisions.
- Coordinate team initiatives to improve the services provided by the team, providing line-management and mentoring for other members of the team as required.
- As the subject matter expert in real estate, delivers briefing and training sessions to key senior stakeholders.
- Improve processes for the management of legal matters and advice by the Legal Services Office.
- Fulfil such other duties as are commensurate with the grade of the post.
Profile
Applicants should be qualified solicitors or barristers.
The successful candidate will therefore be:
- a solicitor or barrister admitted in England and Wales with significant and demonstrable experience of property law and a working knowledge of construction law;
- able to articulate legal principles and concepts clearly and concisely both in writing and orally;
- confident in exercising substantial independent responsibility and discretion and manage major projects;
- confident and able to persuade and influence senior officials and colleagues and deal directly at all levels of the organisation and with external professional advisers;
- flexible, imaginative and able to identify creative and practical solutions to complex problems;
- pragmatic and able to advise on relative risks;
- logical, able to understand complex situations, and assimilate large quantities of information quickly and accurately;
- adept at working in diverse teams; able to appreciate and adapt to the needs of different client groups;
- proactive and keen to identify areas where practice can be improved;
- adept at dealing with novel situations and cross jurisdictional issues; and
- well organised and able to prioritise in-progress work efficiently in order to satisfy deadlines without close supervision.
