Role overview:
To be responsible for negotiating and drafting legal terms of client contracts and supplier contracts for all areas of the business.
To support commercial negotiations undertaken by the business, and ensuring that the achieved commercial agreements are accurately reflected in contracts.
To drive forward the strategic development of business units by ensuring that their standard terms and conditions they use are relevant and appropriate.
To assist in the identification and mitigation of legal and regulatory risk throughout a dynamic company that operates in a fast moving industry, together with ensuring that the company complies with internal Group guidelines.
Responsibilities:
Negotiating and drafting supplier commercial contracts
Supporting the development of new products and services of the business so that they are legally compliant and meet the commercial objectives of the business
To assist in ensuring that domestic client contracts are properly formulated
To become the principal legal contact for matters relating to the business' largest external client, Next
To drive the strategic direction of Hermes' international business by working closely with the relevant business unit and offering legal support as needed, including developing an appropriate suite of precedent contracts and pre-contract documentation
To drive the strategic direction of Hermes' SME targeted business by working closely with the relevant business unit and offering legal support as needed, including developing an appropriate suite of terms and conditions
To be aligned with business units with Hermes' myHermes/C2C business to ensure that the legal needs of these business units are met
To develop a deep understanding of the labour and business models used by the business so that guidance and direction can be given to relevant business units, including the review of internal and external communication is these areas
Participating in business projects to provide guidance and solutions with the aim that legal issues don't become barriers
Leading projects/work streams to ensure that Hermes complies with internal Group guidelines
Leading projects/work streams to ensure that Hermes' activities are legally compliant
Qualifications:
Solicitor with extensive experience of working with commercial organisations trading with the EU
Experience of negotiating, drafting and advising on long term service contracts, IT contracts and contracts for the supply of equipment
Capable of negotiating and drafting bespoke agreements to reflect unique commercial agreements made by the business with third party suppliers
A good understanding of the consumer law and regulation is desirable but not essential
Must have the capability to work on own initiative and be self-motivated
Must be articulate and comfortable when dealing with people at all levels and capable of influencing all areas of the business
Must be able to positively represent and develop the legal department of Hermes
