Head of Legal, UK & Ireland
Leatherhead, Full or Part Time
£ Competitive

Premium Credit Limited is the number one insurance premium finance company in the UK and Ireland, backed by private equity firm Cinven. It has specialised in providing finance for businesses and individuals for over 25 years, allowing them to pay for their insurance by spreading the costs over regular instalments, instead of paying the whole premium upfront. In addition to insurance premiums, it also provides finance to pay annual fees, such as professional fees, membership subscriptions, commercial service charges and school fees.

In 2016, the Company achieved gross advances of £3.9 billion, processing more than 29 million Direct Debits. It has over 2 million customers and works with approximately 2,700 intermediaries. Premium Credit is based just outside Leatherhead in Surrey and comprises over 400 employees.

An experienced commercial lawyer is now required to lead on a busy, varied and demanding portfolio at the heart of this growing business. This would suit a candidate of agile mind, with personality, drive and ambition – perhaps in their first Head of Legal role.

Role

Cinven’s investment in the business is aimed at building a diversified UK speciality finance business through organic growth, new product launches and selective acquisitions. The group has also continued to invest in its infrastructure to capitalise on future growth opportunities, including recruiting a new CIO to lead their digital journey.

The group also needs to continue to develop its legal team to provide support and advice to the business on legal issues and strategic project, delivering commercial value, whilst ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will work closely with the General Counsel, external lawyers and business heads, very much in a front line role, adept at leadership, training and stakeholder relationship management.

Person

An experienced lawyer in-house or in private practice, with the desire to lead in a fast-paced business focused role, which requires a pragmatic and commercial approach. The role can be offered on either a full or substantial part time basis.

A self-starter with the ability to drive and bring about change, not thinking along tramlines but finding practical solutions.

An entrepreneurial personality who would be comfortable working closely with the General Counsel, the CEO and the CFO, as well as developing and mentoring a relatively newly formed team.
