FORTUNE 100 company, an outstanding employer, a well-known global business with exciting innovative products perfect reputation is looking for a Legal Counsel to join their team in Paris. The ideal candidate will come from a top law firm, have 3-8 years of experience and be fluent in French (negotiations, drafting).

The scope of work is about complex negotiations drafting of commercial contracts. For someone with an interest in data protection there may be an opportunity to take this responsibility as part of the role. 90% of work is in English but the remaining 10% require total fluency in French. The geographic remit is Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and Russia.

The company offers fantastic career, (arguably) the best in-house legal team, structure and processes. They are known as the benchmark for legal innovation.

You can expect flexible schedule if required, above market salary, 15-20% bonus always paid, stock option, extra holidays, professional development and other great benefits.

The People

The quality of people is outstanding – the company is very selective. You would be working with some of the brightest and most intelligent legal professionals in technology. What is nice is that there is great camaraderie at all levels, people are friendly and helpful. 92% of employees are proud to tell others they work there. The company has a strong focus around culture, integrity and respect for the individual – the atmosphere is trusting and empowering.

Your Manager

The manager for this position is a caring and ethical person keen to look after and to develop their legal team. They came on secondment from private practice for 6 months and stayed for 11 years – ‘blown away’ by the team and processes.

Flexibility

The manager and the business care about results and not about how many hours you put in. They understand that you may need flexibility. So you can work from home if needed, you can take time off work when you think it’s necessary, start and finish time can be flexible...

Career and Development

This is a perfect company in which to really develop and push yourself. The legal team enjoys excellent regular training, coaching and mentoring from the managers and huge personal development opportunities. If you are interested in progressing in your career, moving abroad or have an interest in another legal area, it is easy to do so. Your manager will be keen to make sure you are using your true talents, that you are happy in your role and that you are progressing.

The Legal Team

Worldwide, the legal department consists of 300 lawyers. They are a truly innovative bunch, having started using advanced technology for legal processes over 10 years ago. The General Counsel is held in awe and admiration by his team - he is funny, strategic, incredibly intelligent and hard-working. His philosophy is to “hire people smarter than himself”. This attitude is cascaded down to Regional Legal Directors and the GC acknowledges that the team members are the pillars of the success of the legal function.

As a new member of the team you would find the degree of sharing of knowledge and resources truly amazing. Every conceivable task has been automated. The tracking of contracts is brilliant; the approval process is totally automated; there is a separate group of lawyers who do the NDA agreements with very fast return times; no lawyer ever has to chase a contract signature or copy – it is all taken care of by a specialist global function. There is constant sharing of information and experience.

In-house counsels here are business enablers and are often the people recommending a decision to their executive teams — and in some cases, they make the judgement calls themselves. The legal team is viewed and respected as business enabler, strategic agents and opportunity makers.

The role is international. You would be working as part of the EMEA team supporting projects not just in France but in other parts of Europe, Middle East and Africa. Most of the work is done in English with a smaller proportion of negotiations and contracts in French.

Remuneration and benefits

Base salary is excellent (we can discuss on the phone). Also there is: bonus based on personal and company performance of at least 15-20% (always paid), good medical and pension, around 9 extra days off a year, flexibility about hours and other benefits. This is a generous and caring employer.

Your skills and experience

We are looking for EITHER:

  • Lawyer with 3-7 years of experience in a top law firm (any specialism should be good except for tax / labour)
  • Legal Counsel 3-8 PQE with some experience in technology / IT sector

Full fluency in both French and English is absolutely mandatory (drafting, negotiations).

Would you like to discuss it?

Please get in touch with Mila Read at McKenzie Douglas.

I look forward to hearing from you.
