Our client operates from state of the art business premises and is an international retail supply and distribution brand located in Watford. They are ideally located close to public transport and/or parking is provided.

The business is privately owned and has a real entrepreneurial spirit. The essence of the business promotes a stable environment and a family friendly culture. The work itself is fast paced and offers variety working across international legal issues.

As Head of Legal you will work closely within a team of 3. This is a broadly based commercial role and it will require someone who has the ability to work across a variety of commercial and corporate legal issues (at times with the assistance of external counsel). You will be required to strategically sit at Board meetings to support the Board across the delivery of legal advice as well as be quick thinking in your delivery of critical legal advice where required.

This is a fast paced environment and it will require someone who is proactive, forward thinking and practical. You will have:

  •          a broad technical knowledge of commercial legal issues ideally gained whilst operating as an in-house lawyer;
  •          some corporate experience (this is not essential) however, if you do not have a corporate background, you must have the confidence to work with external counsel across any corporate legal issues;
  •          strong experience of drafting and negotiating complex international commercial agreements;
  •          experience of data protection laws and their practical application in a business;
  •          project management skills and the demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise your own workload;
  •          exceptional ability to respond flexibly to a fast-moving business environment;
  •          the ability to analyse and recommend solutions to legal issues.  This will involve balancing the need to minimise legal risk with the need to take commercial risks;
  •          creativity to propose and implement new ways of working and process improvements;
  •          ability to lead, support and mentor junior members of the team.
