Do you have experience in European employment-based immigration work? Ready to join a premier global corporate immigration law firm? Berry Appleman & Leiden has expanded the employee benefits package and is seeking an experienced European Immigration Advisor for a position in our London office.
Please note:
1. European immigration experience is a must, specifically, at least 2+ years in high volume corporate immigration (not UK in-bound).
2. This position is located in the UK, at the BAL London office.
3. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the UK, as BAL will not be providing sponsorship for this position.
OVERVIEW: The Senior Immigration Advisor I is responsible for providing general support to Immigration Assistants, Senior Immigration Assistants, Attorneys and Managers with a variety of tasks and activities. This person will have a thorough understanding of procedures and requirements and independently handle cases while teaching/mentoring. He/she will also serve as a Firm resource on case management and application of the law/regulatory procedures.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
At Immigration Advisor Level:
- Counsel and respond to queries from human resources, managers and employees on all global immigration-related matters. This would include visa processing, documentation, visa options, risks, timelines, etc.
- Prepare applications, letters, forms, etc. to obtain initial work permits, residence permits, and related documents and extensions of same
- Responsible for accurately maintaining our database to ensure all data is recorded and all appropriate actions are taken in a timely manner to pro-actively drive the case forward and keep the client and the BAL account manager updated in real time
- Maintain relationships with BAL’s global immigration service providers and ensure that employees are receiving quality service at all times
- Update internal team on new immigration policies and procedures
- Administrative duties associated with global immigration case management, including but not limited to: processing payments and/or reimbursements, processing invoices, requesting document verification letters, generating reports, and maintaining required legal documentation, etc.
- Interact with government officials or outsourcing partners at Embassies, Consulates, High Commissions, Visa Application Centers, county clerk, or US State level Secretaries of State; in person, by email, fax and phone as required.
- Perform other related duties as required/assigned in support of the firm.
At Senior Immigration Advisor Level (in addition to the above responsibilities):
- Provide excellent client service
- Engage in report generation for self and others
- Evaluate problematic cases and provide strategies and/or solutions to issues
- May provide training and guidance to Immigration Advisors
- May be responsible for managing various corporate accounts; serve as a point of contact for the company contact and manager in his/her area(s) of expertise
- Serve as a resource and often provide training and guidance to Attorneys and legal staff in his/her area(s) of expertise
- Participate in projects and/or committees as related to the area of expertise
- Assist with setting BAL policies/procedures/protocols in area(s) of expertise
- May be asked to write and prepare materials to be used internally and possibly externally

QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills and Abilities:
- Subject matter expertise in global immigration services
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to manage multiple client cases and work within strict timelines
- Mastery of immigration service skills
- Proven ability to handle a high volume of cases
- Proven ability to handle complex, challenging cases with thoroughness and proficiency
- Proven ability to manage corporate clients as it relates to area of specialization
- Comprehensive knowledge of Team practice
- Ability to quickly absorb, learn and become skilled at a variety of legal work
- Proven ability to be the “Go To” person on Team
- Able and willing to share knowledge with others and effectively communicate policies/procedures/protocols to all
Experience:
- Requires at least 2 years of progressive experience in European employment-based immigration casework.
- Progressive experience in Swiss and French immigration casework is highly preferred but any EU country is a plus.
- Experience with other EU countries' corporate immigration is desirable.
- European corporate immigration experience is required.
Minimum Education Level:
- Bachelor’s degree
