Our award winning, international client is searching for an experienced Legal Counsel to assist the Group General Counsel and provide legal advice and assistance to the Group across the areas of Data Protection and general Commercial legal advice. The position is based at the company headquarters in Sevenoaks and offers a strong work/life balance and good flexibility.

Main responsibilities for the position include acting as the Group expert on data protection matters (including GDPR) with lead legal responsibility for ensuring compliance with existing and future data protection laws and guidance. This will be carried out by;

  • Advising on GDPR implementation, including by researching and advising on changes required to existing systems, internal and external policies and contracts;
  • Proactively monitoring changes in data protection legislation and guidance and working with key internal stakeholders (including IT Security) to establish and embed data protection best-practice across the Group.

Other major responsibilities for the position involve dealing with a wide variety of general commercial agreements within a supportive legal team, including;

  • Reviewing, drafting and advising on general commercial agreements including non-disclosure, distribution and procurement (including IT), framework, outsourcing and other agreements relating to the sale and/or purchase of goods and services;
  • Reviewing, updating and improving policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Essential skills include substantial knowledge of advising on data protection matters for the business, the ability to draft agreements from scratch without heavy reliance on precedents and the ability to participate in meetings and negotiations in the course of which contracts and agreements are developed with customers/suppliers.

Our client envisages that candidates with 4+ years PQE will have the relevant skills / knowledge for this position, however this has been given as an approximate guide for applicants and our client is happy to consider the applications of candidates who fall outside of this range but who have the relevant experience.
