In House Group Legal Counsel
up to £75k depending on experience

A nationally recognised retail brand is looking for a Group Legal Counsel to join their business. The business operates 100s of sites and is primarily seeking a property lawyer to deal with the estate aspects but there is also a requirement to complete commercial work. This is a great opportunity for a lawyer who is looking for a hybrid commercial property (70%)/commercial contracts (30%) role.

The In House Group Legal Counsel Role:

This role requires an experienced solicitor to manage the Group's legal activities, principally providing support to the Estates team but also assisting the Company Secretary in meeting the Groups legal, compliance and key commercial obligations.

Main Accountabilities:

- Preparing, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of legal documents including sale and purchase agreements, leases, sub-lease, agreements for lease, and applications for landlord's consents.
- Updating Estates team on relevant legislative and case law changes relevant to functions
- Day to day support of the Estates team on all legal matters.
- Appointing and managing external property solicitors and counsel.
- Management of existing property legal spend and managing case load for external legal advisers.
- Prepare, review and advise on commercial agreements and terms and conditions
- Support the Company Secretary in meeting the Group's legal and compliance obligations.
- Advise senior management on legal matters and legislative amendments

Skills:

- Ability to create and draft clear and concise legal advice
- Ability to interpret legislative and regulatory requirements and provide practical guidance.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, articulate and numerate, especially in contacts with those with a non-property background
- Takes advantage of every opportunity to communicate relevant information remaining mindful of the audience (eg translates complex/technical issues to meet the audience's competency level)
- Willing and able to challenge accepted practices and processes
- Commercially aware and able to add value through advice
- Flexibility (nationwide, multi-site, 7-day trading organisation).
- Logical, structured and organised.

Knowledge:

- Technically strong - detailed knowledge of all relevant property legislation
- Knowledge of management frameworks, structures and various inter-departmental and interdependent processes that form the Organisation's provision.

Experience:
- Experience of national multi-site organisation
- Ability to prioritise and deal with a high volume work-load
