Senior Regulatory Lawyer (Payments)

My client is a leading fintech innovator in search of an experienced regulatory lawyer to manage risk matters for Payment system regulation, clearing and product development matters throughout the UK and EMEA.

The Role
This role will sit between sales and regulation with a direct report to the Global Legal Director where you will manage a number of legal projects whilst focusing on payments product development and support the negotiation of strategic arrangements with merchants, financial institutions, payment processors, and other service providers. The business has recently expanded it's focus overseas, where candidates with knowledge of working in the US and Asia Pac would be highly advantageous. The sales team will rely on your great sense of legal and risk judgement to ensure a commercial resolution keeps current commercial relationships intact. As part of your role you will handle pre-litigation and legal disputes and be capable to instruct external legal resources for specific cases. As part of your role you will be responsible for drafting and negotiating specific agreements for the Payments IT developers on innovative products.


The Candidate
Must have a general regulatory background with a thorough understanding of the Central Banks regulation focus within payments and financial services. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 yrs PQE, with international experience of assisting sales teams on multi million deals. Over time this role will further develop into a small team which you'll head up. There is some international travel with this role and candidates must have a natural capability to develop client relationships.
