Legal Counsel (Asset Management) - TOP Sovereign Wealth Fund

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn from more senior members of the team and the General Counsel while serving in a critical role to provide legal support to all areas of the organization.
 

Purpose of the role

Provide legal support services to the investment and support departments in order to safeguard the interests of the organisation from a legal perspective. This includes, but is not limited to, rendering professional legal advice, drafting of and interpreting agreements, procedures and regulations.

Duties and responsibilities

• Render accurate and timely counsel to senior management on a range of legal matters (including but not limited to fund investments and joint ventures, corporate finance, partnerships etc).
• Manage legal aspects of assigned projects, coordinating with the internal investment and business teams and external legal counsel to achieve a cost‐effective, timely and commercially sound delivery of services.
• Ensure that the organisation’s operations and activities are at all times in conformity with the applicable legislation in the pertinent countries and advise Management on any relevant developments in law or regulation.
• Draft agreements, contracts and other legal documents to ensure the organisation’s full legal rights are protected at all times.
• Review and ensure quality control of legal documents and advise relevant signatories / senior management on material content as required.
• Communicate and negotiate with external parties (asset managers, external counsel, public authority etc.) creating relations of trust.
• Demonstrating initiative and being proactive to identify, manage and avert legal risk.
• Undertake all required and delegated tasks to ensure provision of first‐class legal support to the organisation and its various departments.

Key selection criteria – all mandatory:

• Law degree from a reputable university
• 3-8 years of PQE
• In-house experience from a Hedge Fund, Private Equity firm or blue chip investment manager OR a magic circle law firm
• Exposure to one of the international financial centers (e.g. London, Australia, Europe, Asia, US)

Interview Process

Technical interviews with the General Counsel and select members of the Legal Team (1-2 calls) followed by one HR Director interview. Closer to the offer you will be flown to UAE for final round of meetings and interviews.
