The Team

The Energy, Infrastructure and Natural Resources team in London enjoys a wide and growing mix of work and is a top-tier practice for its work in the energy, infrastructure and mining sectors. In recent years it has won a number of awards for its work, is highly profitable and highly regarded within the firm. About 80% of its turnover is derived from work outside the UK and the expansion of the Norton Rose Fulbright Group has allowed the team to attract a much larger and diverse client base. There are presently about 90 lawyers in the team.

The Role

An opportunity has arisen for a junior or junior-mid level lawyer to join the team in London, who has acquired or is developing a strong experience in and knowledge of commercial contracts. The individual will work primarily on energy and infrastructure projects and will play a key role in negotiating contracts and related documents in the UK and internationally.  A working knowledge of general construction and operation contract arrangements would be ideal, as would specific knowledge of internationally-used standard forms such as FIDIC.  Additional experience of other project documentation, such as fuel and off-take arrangements, concession contracts, interface agreements and ancillary security documents would be beneficial. International experience and a forward-thinking outlook would also be valued.

Skills and Experience Required

In order to adapt to the rapidly evolving world markets the team needs qualified lawyers with an adeptness in dealing with a wide variety of commercial contract issues, in order to assist our work with clients requiring innovative ways of dealing with project risks.

The ideal lawyer will:

  • demonstrate mental agility – the ability to analyse, think laterally and offer solutions quickly
  • possess strong drafting skills
  • be able to apply oneself to complex and intricate transactions involving multiple jurisdictions and that require a more creative approach
  • communicate effectively on both a practical and intellectual level and demonstrate a willingness to listen
  • demonstrate strong relationship-building skills
  • possess strong organisational and transaction management skills and the willingness to drive a complex and time-critical transaction to a successful and timely outcome
  • have an interest in, and an aptitude for, developing the firm’s business, including proactively building a network of personal business contacts and collaborating with colleagues on marketing activities
  • possess strong business acumen - an interest in and understanding of the markets in which clients and their counterparties operate and the commercial drivers of individual transactions
