Head of eDiscovery

London

Grade 6/Band A - £62,111 - £74,188 p/a (Digital)

Do you have experience in managing and supporting eDiscovery systems within complex and multi-disciplined organisations or are you experienced in investigating and prosecuting criminal cases, in particular those involving fraud, bribery and corruption?

You may have either a technological or a legal background to be the person we are looking for to lead our eDiscovery activities.

Technology is at the heart of the SFO’s business, and the key component of that is our eDiscovery platform, which our case teams use to review the significant amount of digital evidence we seize in the course of our investigations. The amount of data has grown exponentially in recent years: our cases regularly involve more than 10 million documents, and the largest has more than 50 million. We have invested heavily in technology to help support this, and that includes the development of a ‘LPP robot’ based on machine learning and artificial intelligence, which helps identify material covered by Legal Professional Privilege. We have also made significant enhancements to our digital forensic capabilities, and have recently implemented a new eDiscovery platform, OpenText (Recommind) Axcelerate, which is running alongside our legacy system, Autonomy Introspect. A project is underway to migrate our existing cases to the new platform, however some older cases will remain on Introspect, so both systems will be in use for some time.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Supported by a Project Manager, and a team of in-house staff and third party contractors, you will take a leading role in the migration project, and in managing and supporting the current and future systems. You will be responsible for engaging with users of this system across the organisation, to ensure that our multi-disciplined case teams are able to use this technology to investigate and prosecute our cases as efficiently and effectively as possible, and that they are supported in the use of Predictive Coding and Technology Assisted Review features as we seek to utilise this across our cases.

You will also take a lead role in working with other law enforcement and regulatory agencies in the UK and other jurisdictions on this topic, and our key technology partners. For more information about the role and to apply  please visit the civil service jobs website.

ABOUT THE SFO

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is a specialist prosecuting authority taking on the top level of serious or complex fraud, bribery and corruption.

We are unusual in the UK in that we both investigate and prosecute our cases. We were set up this way because these kinds of cases are complicated and lawyers and investigators need to work together from the beginning.

Our staff includes investigators, lawyers, forensic accountants, analysts, digital forensics experts and a variety of other specialist and support roles. You can find out more about the work we do at our website.
