This York based business seeks a no 2 lawyer to work with the current sole legal counsel. Responsible for the provision of high quality in-house legal advice and guidance across a range of commercial matters across the Group, you will deliver effective and pragmatic solutions, whilst ensuring that legal and commercial risks are visible and mitigated.

Day to day you will: deliver innovative and creative solutions within a legal framework, identify, analyse and mitigate commercial risk during the contract lifecycle, lead legal negotiations with suppliers, partners and service providers, review business practice, policies and processes to identify risk areas and provide action plans for ongoing mitigation. Additionally you will draft, review and administer legal and transactional documentation, work proactively with stakeholders to identify potential legal issues or risks in product and service design, ensure stakeholders fully understand legal issues in relation to contracts and liaise with external legal counsel and/or specialists when required. You will also maintain knowledge of legal developments, new legislation and associated impacts and be involved in providing training and support to staff within the Group to increase commercial awareness and knowledge of contractual implications.

Whilst applications are welcomed from those with existing commercial contracts experience (gained either in-house in private practice), those with a background in commercial litigation, regulatory or non-contentious areas are also of interest. The role can be full time or part-time.

Anyone who feels the role could be for them should be a strong communicator, very commercially aware and solutions focussed. You should also possess strong influencing skills and be able to promote recommendations to all levels of the business.
