Leading top tier international law firm is looking to add to the highly regarded Technology, Media & Telecoms (TMT) team in the UK- this role can be based in Edinburgh, Glasgow or London. 

Position Overview:

  • Succeeding in today’s technology industry requires a deep understanding of the sector and a keen knowledge of the business issues driving change. The TMT team have extensive legal capabilities and experience developed through decades working with a wide range of participants in the sector—from emerging growth software and IT companies to multinational technology suppliers. Among their lawyers are computer programmers and legal counsel who have worked for leading technology companies.  The team works with World-leading corporations and government entities and on many of the largest and most innovative sourcing deals across an array of industry sectors.
  • Due to significant instructions from existing clients, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a bright and ambitious lawyer with circa 2-5 PQE with non-contentious technology, outsourcing and general commercial experience to join our highly talented and award-winning TMT department. You will be working with one of the UK's top TMT teams, band 1 ranked in technology and telecoms, commercial contracts and data protection and will have the opportunity to be involved in some of the most innovative work in the field, supported by our team of over 50 colleagues.
  • Client-wise, you will have the opportunity to work with household names such as Argos, EDF Energy, Homebase, John Lewis, Network Rail, Royal Mail, Barclays, Sainsbury's, Total, and Virgin Group. The team also advise central government following our successful re-appointment to the Government's Crown Commercial Services panel, and applicants will have an opportunity should they wish to get involved in some of the largest, most innovative technology and commercial procurements in the UK, This is a great opportunity to join one of the leading TMT teams in the UK with genuine career development prospects.

Responsibilities

  • You will be given the opportunity to work across a diverse range of types of work across different sectors including TMT, Defence, Retail, Government, Energy. Additionally, the team has a strong presence in payments and Fintech work in the Financial Services sector, and you will have the chance to be involved in that type of work if you wish.

  • You will be involved in a mixture of technology and commercial deals, some large where you are working as part of a team, and others where you will be able to operate with a greater degree of independence.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Circa 2-5 PQE and a background in commercial, IT, IP or telecoms. 
  • Candidates are expected to have technology awareness.
  • Candidates with in-house experience (currently or previously) are also invited to apply- as in practice we form close relationships with in house teams, and the ability to understand their environment is vey important.
  • Ability to work with a degree of independence.
  • Exceptional drafting skills and legal research ability; familiarity with IP licensing and data protection would also be beneficial but not essential.
