This is an excellent opporunity for a UK qualified lawyer to move to the low tax environment of Switzerland to work with one of the largest shipping businesses in the work. This is a mid to senior level Corporate, M&A and commercial role.

Description

Responsibilities with this role include:

  • Draft, review and interpret legal documentation, analyse legal issues and make recommendations on action to be taken in substantial legal matters.
  • Evaluate and negotiate contractual terms in connection with transactions in different jurisdictions, and advise appropriate personnel of the degree of legal risk associated with such transactions prior to the company becoming a party or otherwise legally bound.
  • Review, interpret and apply industry regulations and court rulings, conduct legal research, and represent the company before governmental and regulatory authorities.
  • Provide counsel and guidance on legal implications oftransactional and operational matters to management, different company departments and subsidiaries and affiliates.
  • Work closely with other legal functions in the company, especially compliance and competition, to ensure that their interests are taken into account in corporate development and commercial projects.
  • Participate in the development and review of company's policies, procedures, programs, practices and business strategies and ensure to ensure compliance and conformity with standards set forth in the applicable laws.
  • Review and coordinate use of outside law firms and other advisers by the company.
  • Manage assigned or delegated special projects and tasks to completion in an efficient, economical manner in accordance with company goals and objectives.
  • Prepared to travel. Travel not regular but can be worldwide.
  • Profile

    The successful candidate is likely to:

  • be a UK-qualified Corporate and M&A Legal Counsel (University degree in law or equivalent nationally approved qualification)

  • have 3-6 years professional legal experience with substantial practice experience in corporate and transactional work.
  • have experience in an international law firm or a large national law firm. Equivalent in-house experience with multi-national company is an advantage but not essential.
  • Readiness to undertake a mixture of corporate and commercial work.
