The Government Legal Department (GLD) is a place to practise like no other. As the largest provider of legal services across government, we work across unique and high profile cases of unrivalled variety. From roads to rivers, and health to human rights, our work touches on most aspects of public life. This is your chance to make a lasting difference as you act in the public good.

Our highly motivated and dynamic lawyers deal with disputes connected to work of other teams within the Commercial Law Group, as well as other commercial procurement disputes across other government departments. Successful candidates can expect to be involved in some of the most high profile, complex, and far reaching commercial issues in government.

In particular, you will advise on the entire lifecycle of public procurements, information technology, intellectual property and state aid – managing legal risks, handling contracts and resolving any disputes as effectively as possible. As you might expect, those disputes will require you to work alongside litigation lawyers, and play a key role in instructing, collaborating, and managing external law firms and counsels.

To thrive in our dynamic political environment, you’ll need to be proactive, adaptable and creatively minded. Given the nature of the posts, we’re particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience of working in a commercial litigation environment.

GLD is a supportive and happy place to work, offering a challenging and exciting career. We are truly committed to flexible working and providing a work/life balance for our teams, along with offering attractive benefits.

Closing date: 12 midday on 13th July.
