The Role
The role is hands on, managing the small trade mark and designs department. The role includes dealing with clients direct, advising on clearance searches, drafting specifications, advising on filing strategies and costs, filing applications in the UK, EU, WIPO and National filings, prosecution, handling objections raised by the UK IPO and EU IPO, renewals, oppositions, cancellations and revocations, preparation of evidence, litigation and working with external attorneys around the world to deliver the IP protection needed for our clients globally. The ability to speak/write French and/or Spanish would be a plus but not a requirement.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the trademarks and designs department and all global trade mark and design filings.
Liaise with clients directly.
Devising and advising on worldwide TM filing strategies; liaising with global counsel worldwide.
Clearance advice.
Advising on office actions and how to deal with them and responding to the UK IPO and EUIPO.
Advising on and dealing with oppositions and other contentious proceedings at IPEC.
Working alongside Counsel when needed (oppositions and other contentious proceedings at UK IPO and IPEC).
Dealing with administrative tasks (e.g. billing, filing applications for trademarks and designs, updating clients during registration process).
Advising on basic copyright and patent queries.
Developing, marketing and growing our TM practice.
Essential Requirements
Chartered Trade Mark Attorney with at least 2+ years` experience, or IP Solicitor with at least 2+ years of trade mark experience.
Be flexible, highly organised, with a hands-on approach and able to prioritise the work and deadlines effectively.
Demonstrate a commercial approach and experience of advising clients.
Commercially astute with strong analytical skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication.
