The Head of Data Protection/DPO will be principal in data protection within the company.
The Head of Data Protection/DPO is responsible for ensuring that the company is able to comply with all data protection statutory requirements across the country, not just in Bristol and South West England; and including GDPR and PECR/ePrivacy.

Description
- Act as Data Protection Officer across the entire company.
- Support and advise the company's Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Board of Investors on data protection risk across the business reporting to CFO.
- Lead a team of up to 6 data protection subject matter experts. Ensuring the team provide effective day-to-day management of RAC data protection governance.
- To inform and advise the company on its Data Protection obligations, provide advice regarding Data Protection Impact Asessement (DPIAs) and act as a contact for data subjects & the supervisory authority.
- Build relationships with key internal stakeholders to understand the needs of the business and with external bodies such as the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
- Day-to-day contact for all data protection queries and issues within the business, working within the legal team and closely with the risk and regulatory team.
- Providing high quality legal support on data protection matters, identify where non-compliance has significant regulatory and reputational consequence for business Providing concise and easily understandable advice and applicable solutions on complex data protection matters.
- Monitor compliance and impact assessments to identify, assess, monitor, manage, report and mitigate risks.
- Actively monitor the regulatory environment. Keep up to date with developments in the law and elsewhere of relevance to enable the company to react appropriately and in line with best practice.
Profile
The successful Head of Data Protection/DPO will have:
- A legal qualification (5-7 PQE) or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years experience of current data protection legislation (Data Protection Act 1998), and General Data Protection Regulation / UK Data Protection Bill and PECR/ePrivacy Regulations, is essential.
- Experience of working in a role where implementing data protection measures is a day-to-day requirement.
- Preferably previous DPO experience within a regulated environment.
- Good interpersonal skills and experience of leading a team of data protection or compliance/governance professionals is desirable.
- Recognised data protection qualification such as Cert. DP, ISEB or CIPP/E is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of data monetisation, resell and relicencing sector.
- Experience of working in or with data services industry would be an advantage.
