Company:
The role of Lead Counsel / Head of Legal sits within the Energy Management division of a leading global supplier of products, systems, solutions and services for the transmission and distribution of electrical power. This includes low-voltage and distribution power grid, smart grid and energy automation solutions, power supply for industrial plants, energy storage and high-voltage transmission systems.
Role:
Reporting to Head of the Division, the Lead Counsel / Head of Legal will be responsible for supervising a small team of solicitors and contract managers, and undertaking their own hands-on legal work. Responsibilities will include: proactively providing contractual legal advice and support to the relevant sales, procurement and tendering teams; supporting on contractual management matters; reviewing terms and conditions; negotiating agreements; and advising on risk profiles. In addition you will participate in legal projects, support the development of effective claim management and dispute avoidance, and advise on disputes with customers, sub-contractors and suppliers.
As part of a 12 strong legal and contracts team, within a significantly wider Group legal department, this role provides an excellent mix of autonomy, responsibility and management experience. This role is based in Manchester but will involve travel to other company and customer locations.
Person:
To be considered for the role of Lead Counsel / Head of Legal you should have at least 10 years' PQE dealing with complex commercial projects and contentious/non-contentious construction and/or energy contracts - standard forms such as NEC3 and FIDIC. Experience at a multinational company and or or a leading law firm is desired. Existing experience in a management role is desirable but not essential.
You should desire to work in a fast paced business, building relationships with multi-national teams, and you should have a keen interest in sharing skills and experience with legal and non-legal colleagues.
