Highly-regarded East Anglian law firm is looking to recruit a Charities lawyer of 0 to 2 years’ PQE. The Charities and Social Enterprise Team sits within the firm’s Corporate department and comprises specialists in charity law and regulation. The team is multi-disciplinary, advising charity clients on matters relating to all aspects of their constitutional, governance and operational needs. This is a great opportunity to join a growing practice area with an excellent reputation, offering good career prospects for the right candidate.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, ambitious, energetic, and must have a genuine interest in charity law. The successful candidate will join a rapidly growing practice, and will need to be confident in advising clients directly, as they will be expected to lead on their own matters (with appropriate support and supervision) in addition to providing support on more complex matters led by senior fee earners. Strong technical drafting, research and communication skills, with good attention to detail and a commercial/pragmatic approach are essential qualities, as is the ability to deliver a strongly client-focussed service, giving clear, timely and practical legal advice on often complex, technical areas of charity law and regulation. Prior experience of Charity law is not essential, but candidates must be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in becoming a charity law specialist. Work includes: • advising on setting up new charities • incorporating existing charities • advising on structuring social enterprise projects • advising on trustees’ powers • interpreting historic constitutional and other documents to identify restrictions affecting charity assets • updating constitutional documents • advising on charity mergers • fundraising arrangements • commercial contracts • Charity Commission investigations, governance and a range of other technical questions of charity law and regulation.

Candidates with good quality experience of either corporate/commercial or private client work (in particular, trust law) who have a desire to specialise in charity law would be suitable for the role.
