Marine / Shipping Litigation Solicitor – One of the international market leaders in maritime law is looking to recruit a talented litigator to join their growing team in Manchester.   • Reports to: Head of Marine / Shipping Insurance
  • Previous Experience: Ideally the team is looking for someone with 0-4 PQE in marine litigation. However, they also welcome applications from commercial litigation solicitors. NQs are being actively considered for this role.

MARINE LITIGATION AND THE NATURE OF THE TEAM

Marine law covers a vast area of the law involving a very broad range of expertise. It consists of everything from freight liability, cargo recovery and insurance litigation in relation to goods in transit to property damage. The Manchester team specialises in disputes concerning cargo insurance as well as contractual disputes between freight and logistic companies. Furthermore, the department also handles private yacht work and general transport liability.

Whilst the Manchester team is quite small, our client is one of the international market leaders in this area of law and has a breadth and depth of expertise that in unparalleled by any of their competitors. The size of the Manchester department also means there are great opportunities for career progression with a high amount of face time with clients as well as the opportunity to develop your own specialism.

STRONG LITIGATORS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY

This is a highly complex area of law which draws on a number of specialisms. Those with experience in marine insurance litigation should certainly apply. However, the role is also suited to those with a more general commercial litigation or civil litigation background.  As mentioned above, the range of matters covered by the team is impressive and includes matters in relation to:

  • Cargo vessels;
  • Transport liability; as well as
  • Privately owned leisure yachts.

Candidates best suited to the role will be able to demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and appreciation of how to apply the law in what is a very commercial environment.
