ROLE TITLE- Legal Counsel - EMEA and Asia

Our client is seeking an experienced commercial Counsel to support its operations in the EMEA and Asia (the "Region") with a diverse background and can aid in the company's rapid international expansion. Reporting directly to the EVP & General Counsel over in America, the Counsel will ensure all business strategies, policies and programs are implemented and will be responsible for overseeing and helping to embed the Company's privacy and information security compliance program.

Reporting to: Executive Vice President & General Counsel

NOTED RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for assigned legal activities in the Region, including but not limited to the negotiation and drafting of commercial contracts including sales and distribution agreements, agency agreements, and logistics contracts.
  • Supporting on employment matters and dispute/litigation management.
  • Responsibility for reviewing and advising on product regulatory compliance for multiple jurisdictions and working with external counsel on obtaining regulatory advice.
  • Negotiation and drafting of trademark license agreements for the Region and providing legal support to the global licensing team based in America.
  • Providing legal support to the marketing teams across the Region including drafting and negotiating marketing agency and influencer T's and C's, review of marketing claims, blogs and vlogs content, and drafting competition and promotion terms and conditions.
  • Provide counsel to company executives and employees on legal risks.
  • Provide local assistance to American Legal Department team with (i) global joint ventures, distribution and other strategic partnerships, and mergers, acquisitions and divestitures and (ii) intellectual property matters.
  • Liaise with outside counsel on various matters as and when required to ensure local law compliance.
  • Keep abreast of legislative changes that may affect the company and its affiliates and communicate any likely impacts of changes in the law to relevant business stakeholders.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUISITE:

  • Experience in the areas of drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a range of commercial contracts.
  • Understanding of EU competition law.
  • Knowledge of the practical implications of GDPR and the challenges with compliance across a multinational company.
  • Fluency in another language in addition to English would be ideal (French, German or Italian).
  • Ability to support a sales business that reports its financials on a quarterly basis, to work to deadlines and to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to multi-task and to manage a number of conflicting business priorities.
  • Robust and professional approach to compliance support.
  • Ability to work across all levels of the organisation.
  • General understanding of intellectual property issues including trademark licensing.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization up to and including executive board level in addition to external customers.
  • Well-diversified background with the acumen to contribute as the Company enters new international markets.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales
  • Would suit candidates with 5-7 (PQE) who work in a law firm or corporate legal department; prior experience in an in-house legal department is essential.
  • Strong business partnering skills
  • Autonomous, with strong ability to work effectively in multi-cultural, geographically dispersed, virtual teams.
