This council in the North West are seeking to add a Democratic Services & Governance Locum Lawyer to their team for an 8 -10 week period that may be extended thereafter depending upon work load.
Reporting into the Democratic Services Manager you will be responsible for managing a caseload of governance and information related matters as well as advising committees, panels and councillors across the council on their statutory duties, rights and responsibilities.
To be successful in this post you will need to be passionate about local government and interested in the way that local government departments work together in order to serve their community. You will be required to regularly attend and give advice to Executives, Committees, Panels, Working Groups, Boards and Officers so you will need to have a thorough understanding of how a council works and the different priorities involved. Duties will include: * Providing a range of advice to senior departments and staff within the council including Cabinet, Committees and individual Councillors
- Report writing, research and project management on behalf of democratic services
- Assisting with business continuity plan compilation
- Undertaking and supporting scrutiny reviews
- Reviewing governance arrangements for charter trustees To be successful you will need to have:
- A background in public sector governance ideally gained within local government
- An understanding of committees and advisory boards within local government
- A qualification as a lawyer (solicitor, barrister, legal executive) OR have relevant legal experience within local government.
- Experience advising on information management from a legal perspective such as DPA, FOI and EIR
Hourly rate is negotiable for this post. This client is keen to see a range of different experience levels for this role in the hope of securing the best available talent therefore the advised rate bracket is quite wide at £25 - £40 per hour.
