General Legal Counsel

A global and highly reputable financial services institution are looking to bring on a Legal Counsel to join their Global Markets legal team for a six-month contract, based in Canary Wharf.

About the role

The successful candidate who is placed into the Legal Counsel role will be responsible for supporting several of the business's technology platforms. The business's technology platforms offer FX trading, trade reporting and access to money market funds. It will be the Legal Counsel's responsibility to advise the business on financial regulations affecting the platforms, as well as to negotiate on contracts, manage projects and liaise with external counsel.

Key responsibilities

• Dealing with queries from the business in relation to the technology platforms, particularly in relation to MiFID II compliance, competition issues, audit issues, negotiation of contracts and client complaints

• Progressing Brexit plans and liaising with regulators on licensing requirements across multiple jurisdictions

• Working in conjunction with colleagues in legal and compliance on a global basis to support various projects

Key requirements

• Qualified lawyer with admission from a common law jurisdiction

• Extensive knowledge and experience of capital markets/derivatives and/or financial regulations

• In house experience preferred
