General Counsel

London

Circa £120,000.00 per annum

Overview of the role:

● Are you a lawyer with considerable experience in the UK criminal justice system, looking for a new challenge?

● Do you have significant experience of working within a complex prosecuting environment – including cases of serious economic crime?

● Can you build relationships across government, the criminal justice system, the legal sector, and with international partners and other stakeholders?

● Do you have the ability to operate as part of a Board and Executive Group?

If the answer to these questions is ‘yes’, then you may be just the right person to become our next General Counsel at the Serious Fraud Office (SFO).

The SFO supports the UK’s prosperity and global market position by promoting stable business conditions through investigating and prosecuting serious and complex fraud, bribery and corruption. As General Counsel of the SFO, you will work to the Director and be her principal legal advisor, for example on the exercise of the SFO’s statutory powers and the obtaining and assessments of complex evidence. You will scrutinise the development and progress of investigations from inception to (where appropriate) the point of charge and beyond.

As General Counsel you will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, the Heads of Division and the case teams, providing legal advice and guidance. You will also be part of the SFO’s senior management team, sitting on the board and executive group and contributing to the leadership of the SFO, the delivery of the corporate plan, maximising value for money and achieving outcomes for victims.

The investigations and prosecutions handled by the SFO are some of the most serious dealt with in this jurisdiction and are often politically and economically sensitive, international in nature and subject to high levels of public scrutiny.

If this opportunity excites you and you have the confidence, expertise and presence to operate successfully in this environment then we want to hear from you.

Closing date for this General Counsel role: 23:59 on the 4th January 2019.
