My client is a large public sector organisation in the Midlands area that is experiencing an exciting period of change and internal growth. This is an opportunity to become an integral part of an emerging in-house legal services team which is tasked with bringing legal work back internally to the organisation.
This Legal Counsel role has a largely commercial contracts focus, but will also encompass elements of litigation and governance law. The successful applicant will be experienced in the area of commercial and contractual law, particularly in relation to commercial contracts including compromise agreements and consultancy agreements. This is an ideal opportunity for a commercial specialist to branch out slightly and add to their skill set.
As Legal Counsel you will be involved in developing the commercial contracts precedents for the organisation, alongside internal systems for monitoring legal progress. You will have proven experience in negotiating, drafting and advising on a wide range of legal and transactional issues, including a broad spectrum of agreements, including supply and purchase agreements, licences, confidentiality agreements, research and other collaboration agreements, memoranda of understanding, corporate documentation and consultancy agreements, regulatory issues and intellectual property. As Legal Counsel you will be involved in contracting policies and regulatory matters to ensure compliance and minimise legal and commercial risk.
The successful applicant will provide pragmatic and commercially focused legal, governance and intellectual property advice to the organisation and its subsidiaries. You will liaise frequently with the external legal advisers and internal clients and must possess excellent interpersonal skills. You must be a qualified solicitor (or equivalent) and any level of post qualification experience shall be considered. You must have excellent interpersonal skills and be adept at dealing with professionals at all levels. Any experience of litigation, debt recovery, IP and trademark law or governance would be highly advantageous, but by no means essential.
We encourage interested applicants to apply immediately to be considered for short listing. Alternatively should you require further information or wish to discuss your suitability before applying please contact Kate Jasper in our Manchester office for a confidential discussion.
