The purpose of the Senior In-House Solicitor is to provide a range of pro-active and pragmatic legal advice and support across the business with a particular focus on state aid and IP issues as well as reaching across other parts of Professional Services to reach solutions for the benefit of the business whilst minimising risk exposure.

Responsibilities: 

The Senior In-House Solicitor will be a trusted advisor to the Finance Director and CEO and will provide a full range of pro-active legal support and advice across the business, primarily supporting the operational project activities and the senior management team. You will also be:

• Performing complex legal analysis of state aid and other compliance issues to assist decision making.
• Negotiating and drafting a wide range of contracts from collaborative CR&D Agreements to commercial contracts.
• Liaising with, and managing, external counsel and other professional advisors as required.
• Supporting the Executive and the Main Board to resolve legal issues that face the business from time to time.

Candidate Requirements/ Capabilities: 

The ideal candidate will be a Qualified solicitor in Scotland or England & Wales with PQE circa +5 years and preferably have a mix of both private and public-sector experience with some exposure to European funding Agreements. You will also have:

• Knowledge and understanding of commercial contracts, IP, Research & Development agreements, state aid and procurement law.
• Confident and effective provision of advice to stakeholders to enable them to make accurate decisions.
• Ability to work constructively with business partners and ability to challenge where appropriate.
• Ability to work autonomously; must show ability and desire to “own a problem” and take responsibility for finding solutions.
