My client is a local authority legal team in the South West of England. This council is based in a picturesque and historic area, surrounded by areas of natural beauty but still within the reach of larger towns and cities.

This legal services team is seeking to add a Commercial Property Lawyer to their team on a locum basis for a period of at least 3 months. The team are committed to providing high quality legal advice and are keen to recruit a likeminded individual. Full or part time applications are welcome from all applicants with the right skill set and enthusiasm for the post.

Solicitors or Legal Executives will find this opportunity a great chance to join a busy team of friendly professionals. The purpose of the post is to focus on transactional work with the post holder using their communication and drafting skills on a range of complex property matters. The post holder will get to develop and expand their skills and experience working in a friendly and supportive environment.

Duties will include:

  • Undertake the drafting of leases, licenses, easements, farm business tenancies, grazing agreements, transfer of part etc.
  • Be involved in land acquisitions and disposals
  • Liaise with the council's valuation and estates department

Applicants should have at least 2 year's post qualification experience in property/land law from either the public or private sector. Applicants must also hold a current valid practicing certificate. This position is office based, with the team working in a busy and open plan office environment. There will be a requirement to attend court and other meetings regionally, therefore applicants must have access to their own vehicle. All mileage and parking will be reimbursed by the clients.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FILEx with good understanding of local government law. The candidate will need demonstrable specialist knowledge of commercial property law, legislation and policy and be able to apply this with the context of local government. Knowledge of democratic decision making in local government and complaints policy and process would be advantageous.

Hourly rate is negotiable dependent upon experience but candidates can expect an offer of £38 - £40 per hour, dependent upon experience (Inside IR35).
