This is a superb opportunity for an experienced commercial lawyer to take on a Head of the Legal role for the UK & Ireland business of a major global retail brand.

Description

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide expert, ethical and pragmatic advice and support on all legal issues across the business.
  • Build strong relationships with Country Management, the Stores and other functions including, Risk, Procurement, IT, Operations and Navigation and manage the provision of daily support to them.
  • Manage and develop a team of enthusiastic, talented and skilled in house counsel.
  • Proactively identify relevant new areas of legislation and arising risk areas and work with the business to develop solutions.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts with suppliers and business customers.
  • Support and advise on tender processes.
  • Lead the maintenance and updating of the Governance of the business, including contract control processes.
  • Manage disputes and litigation.
  • Deliver relevant legal training programmes.
  • Ensure FCA compliance in the UK.

Profile

Suitable candidates for the role of Head of Legal / Legal Manager will have the following qualifications / experience:

  • You are a qualified lawyer (approx. 10 years' Post Qualification Experience).
  • You have a proven record of working in a fast moving in-house legal environment.
  • You are technically excellent, pro-active and love building relationships.
  • You have a sound understanding of all areas of law required in-house (commercial, corporate, employment, property, and regulatory) and an ability to apply that knowledge pragmatically across our business areas e. retail and logistics.
  • You have developed excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills over the course of your career.
  • You are able to effectively manage external legal counsel.
  • You believe in the role of Legal in business decisions and relish actively contributing in those decisions.
  • You have the confidence and ability to be able to deal with issues outside your experience and the ability to learn quickly on the job.
  • You demonstrate professionalism, pride and integrity in all aspects of your work.
  • You thrive working with a minimum level of supervision in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • You have line management experience.
  • Your particular experience of FMCG/Retail/Logistics/Digital is an advantage.
