Your new company
A leading full-service UK supplier of medical equipment, with over 500 employees and a rich history spanning over 30 years. The company has over 11,000 customers across the UK, and its operation in Essex houses the bulk of the company's dedicated employees.
Your new role
A newly created Head of Legal position reporting into the Finance Director. As part of a close-knit senior leader function, you will be the sole legal counsel and you will work closely with internal teams such as procurement, finance and HR teams. Your work will include drafting and negotiating a host of critical commercial agreements, including sale & purchase, distribution, procurement and supply chain contracts, while analysing legal and commercial risk across the organisation. You will also on dispute resolution strategies, while acting as the company's Data Protection Officer (DPO). This will entail ensuring company compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation and supporting colleagues through data protection impact assessments. You will build relationships across the wider business, establishing yourself as an effective business person with legal skills.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be a UK-qualified commercial lawyer with excellent academics and at least three years' PQE (as a guide only). You will have trained with a reputable firm or within a respected in-house legal function, with strong experience, of reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. You will have demonstrable experience of analysing, managing and mitigating risk as a trusted advisor to a business, while being confident in engaging with and managing external counsel where necessary. You must also be able to show relevant data protection experience, including ensuring company policy compliance with the GDPR. Additionally, you will possess exceptional communication skills and the ability to manage internal and external stakeholders at all levels. You must be comfortable working fairly autonomously as a sole counsel, with the attitude that no task is too small.
