We are currently seeking an in-house counsel, reporting into the General Counsel, to assist with advice on all legal matters across the business, covering a variety of commercial and contractual matters, IT contracts, other engagements with suppliers and partners, and internal issues such as marketing and GDPR. This is an excellent opportunity for the right person to join a busy, challenging environment to ensure the right commercial deals are agreed, and to help create robust processes to ensure effective governance.

Therefore, we are looking for an experienced, hands on, pragmatic, creative, flexible and dynamic in-house counsel who can manage their own time, and be a key business partner to the various stakeholders in the business.

The ideal person will:

  • Be PQE+5 or above. The PQE level is purely a guide; we are happy to consider applications from any candidate who is able to demonstrate the skills necessary to fulfil the role.
  • Have commercial law experience gained in-house or on secondment, having trained at a city, national or large regional law firm recognised for its commercial law practice.
  • Not be required to have experience in rail.
  • Be able to work full time from our offices in the City of London.

It is essential you are able to demonstrate experience or competence in:

  • Strong drafting skills, with experience of advising on a range of commercial contracts, privacy matters and advertising work
  • Commercially astute – understands business implications and sensitivities based on potential impacts of contract language
  • Financially astute – understands the financial impacts of risks, issues, payment terms and revenue
  • Ability to work independently, self-motivated, with a pragmatic and commercial approach
  • Ability to report upwards accurately and concisely
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high growth environment where handling pressure and achieving deadlines are normal
