We have a new job opportunity within a public sector financial services organisation based in London as Senior Legal Counsel. It is a permanent position looking to offering up to £72,500 per annum.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, mitigate and monitor legal and jurisdiction risks
  • Provide clear, tailored specialist advice on complex legal, jurisdiction and rules issues - this may include public law, financial services law and regulation, litigation, contracts, information law, employment law, procurement, policy, corporate and project work.
  • Deliver legal advice to colleagues on high risk problems, and advise and act for if the organisation are challenged through the courts, protecting their reputation
  • Take a lead on specific areas of the team's workload, when required, and have oversight for all related matters. This could include litigation, jurisdiction and specialist technical advice.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge and understanding of relevant legal, regulatory and policy issues that currently, or could potentially, affect the organisation
  • Use your significant experience as a lawyer to deliver a trusted and efficient service to internal clients, providing specialist legal advice and guidance particularly on challenging problems which help shape the companies approach on particular types of issues, and steer the research undertaken by paralegals.
  • Proactively build collaborative relationships both internally and with appropriate external legal contacts.
  • Support less experienced members of your team in developing and learning from both the legal advice they provide and the more complicated legal and jurisdiction queries they receive
  • Tailor the legal advice you provide to a range of clients in the right way at the right time to help us provide an efficient, relevant and sustainable service which also demonstrates value for money
  • Design and deliver training and update knowledge tools to ensure relevant legal and jurisdiction knowledge is appropriately shared and accessible across the organisation

Minimum Experience and Knowledge

  • Practising UK Qualified lawyer, or equivalent jurisdiction
  • Recognised as a specialist or expert in, at least one of the following - financial services law and regulation, public law, employment law, contracts and procurement, judicial review, data protection and information law
  • Experience within the regulatory, commercial or public sector space with an in-depth understanding of the legislative process
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to deal with demanding client base and various jurisdictions within the organisation.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills for meeting tight deadlines and assimilating complex legal material
