Our international clients Australian Competition practice sits within their highly rated Dispute Resolution practice group and advises on the full range of competition law issues including ACCC merger clearance, joint ventures and strategic alliances, cartel conduct and applications for immunity, and pricing and distribution strategies. The team represents clients in ACCC investigations and enforcement matters and assists clients with competition and consumer law compliance programs. Recent work has included:

  • Advising clients on section 50 merger clearances and assisting them to obtain ACCC clearance.
  • Representing and advising clients in relation to ACCC investigations concerning alleged contraventions of Australian competition and consumer laws.
  • Representing and advising clients in relation to the ACCC's Immunity Policy for Cartel Conduct, including in applications for immunity and subsequent dealings with the ACCC.
  • Acting for clients in the retailing, telecommunications, fast food and groceries markets in dealings with the ACCC, class actions and reseller disputes.

In response to sustained activity they now seek an ambitious associate with 3-6 years' post qualification experience to join its Competition team in Sydney. The ideal applicant will have gained strong competition and consumer law experience in a similar top tier environment, where they will have developed robust technical, drafting and commercial skills and been exposed to both contentious and non-contentious matters. General litigation experience is also relevant and the opportunity to get your hands on such files will be available. Possessing a strong client service ethic, the successful candidate will work well as part of a team, while a strong academic background and sharp intellect is essential.

Australian/NZ qualified lawyers are preferred for this position while the firm will be happy to financially assist those candidates that are looking to return to the Southern Hemisphere after a period working internationally. UK lawyers with strong ties to Australia will also be considered.
