An opportunity has arisen for a Locum Planning Lawyer to join the busy legal services team at a local authority in Dorset.

This is an on-going assignment, in the first instance guaranteed for 3 months. Previous locum lawyers at this authority have enjoyed contracts that have been regularly extended, with many still in post after a year.

This is a full time, office based role but applicants who can work at least 3 days will be considered.

The post holder will be required to provide regulatory legal advice to the Council and officers mainly focussing on planning legal matters, but experience of other areas of law would be also be helpful, including licensing, environmental, health, housing and debt recovery. The post holder will also be responsible for the appropriate litigation.

Duties will include:

Drafting and approval of documentation

  • Drafting and advising in relation to planning notices, orders and byelaws
  • Drafting S106 agreements
  • Giving policy advice with regards to planning
  • Undertaking litigation support in regards to planning

The ideal candidate will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with rights of audience and evidence of continuous professional development. An impressive knowledge of planning law within a local government context will be required as well as experience of drafting a range of legal documentation

Hourly rate is negotiable dependent upon experience but is expected to be between £35 and £50 per hour (umbrella/ltd)
