ROLE DESCRIPTION:

Provide legal support at the request of, or in collaboration with other lawyers responsible for specific matters. Provide legal assistance by attending to the needs of the company regarding the fulfillment of particular obligations in business development, compliance and reporting in accordance with Legal Department Guidelines and applicable legal requirements. Assist with legal-administrative support of the corporate bodies.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Reporting to the Head of Legal, take responsibility on legal drafting and negotiation of a wide range of commercial contracts including construction contracts, supply agreements and confidentiality agreements.
  • Provide support as required on the management of existing contracts for the design and execution of the project.
  • Analysis of complex and legal commercial issues arising from contract negotiations and existing contractual relationships.
  • Support from a legal perspective on the progress of applications for permits, licenses, as well as the administrative proceedings, and if the case, the contentious proceedings, related to those permits.
  • Assisting with general legal enquiries from the business.
  • Prepare legal and miscellaneous correspondence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED ACADEMIC SKILLS:

  • Degree in Law. UK qualified.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • 4 – 10 years’ experience as a lawyer, preferably in the Renewable Energy sector in the UK market.
  • Construction litigation experience (general commercial litigation experience will be considered).
  • Commercial contract experience.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation and organisational skills.
  • Be comfortable working independently with an ability to make pragmatic decisions.
  • Experience on finance, claims management or EPCI contracts.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

  • Ideally, knowledge of FIDIC; BIMCO and/or LOGIC contracts will be valued. Knowledge of Port and land lease agreements and logistics contracts will be also valued.

Skills/ Competencies:

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and manage priorities with flexibility to adapt to changing organisational needs.
  • Mature judgment and discretion, dependability and strong work ethic.
  • Strong drafting, analytical and organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Oral written communication and presentation skills.
  • Be a team player. The candidates will be expected to be able to work on their own and also need to work as part of a cross departmental/international team.

Languages:

  • The project has an international team of employees and the working language is English. Candidates need to be fluent in English both spoken and written. Other languages will be highly valued but are not essential.

Location:

  • Based in Edinburgh. Occasional travel (international and domestic) may be required.
