A renewable energy industry leader is seeking a Commercial In House Legal Counsel to join their team based in Newcastle upon Tyne.

This renewable energy business has a presence across many countries and encompasses onshore and offshore wind turbine design, manufacturing and installation as well as cutting-edge service solutions.

About the Role

This In House Counsel role will provide support to the relevant business partners (Onshore, Offshore and Service teams) including sales, procurement and tendering teams.

You will ensure effective legal risk management when reviewing, drafting and negotiating agreements by addressing legal risks and opportunities whilst simultaneously applying a legal and entrepreneurial perspective.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Advising the business on internal rules and governance processes
  • Managing and mitigating risks by analysing the contractual position and setting the right strategy in order to achieve the best possible result for the business
  • Supporting the business by advising on contract interpretation and developing strategies for and resolving major claims and disputes
  • Cooperating with colleagues in other jurisdictions and sharing knowledge internally by providing in-depth legal training to the business and colleagues in the legal community
  • Advising on a range of ancillary issues and documents, such as bonds, guarantees and direct agreements

Candidate Requirements

The ideal In House Legal Counsel will have the following attributes:

  • Qualified Lawyer with excellent academic credentials
  • At least 2 years PQE within an international business or law firm
  • Experience focused on complex international project business, construction, engineering or other infrastructure projects, claim management and/ or arbitration
  • Ability to confidently deal with / build relationships with senior business colleagues
