A Successful British start-up Renewable Energy Entity is seeking a mid-level Data Protection & Commercial Counsel. Headquartered in Central London, the company has operations within Renewable Energy, Sustainable Technology and Retail. Over the past four years, the business has experienced impressive growth and development, priding themselves on constant innovation and future-proofing renewable energy.
The Role and Responsibilities
Mid-Level Commercial & Data Protection Counsel to join the company’s lean in-house Legal & Risk function at their London HQ. Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will advise and support the business in relation to general commercial contracts, some corporate matters, data protection and GDPR. This is a newly created permanent role devised to set-up, project manage and lead the business’ data protection function, with operational reference to the UK.
The successful in-house counsel will be responsible for dealing with a variety of matters, including;
- Implementing a data protection governance and management framework
- Reviewing and implementing changes to data protection in relation to GDPR including providing advice and guidance on current (DPA) and future (GDPR) requirements
- Drafting and advising on appropriate policies, standards, guidance, privacy notices
- Managing and responding to data subjects' rights requests and other data protection-related queries from customers and employees
- Responding and reporting on data breaches
- Co-ordinating data subject rights requests
- Carry out data protection monitoring activities including across departments in order to complete Data Protection Impact Assessments, cookie scans and Legitimate Interests Assessments
- Provide advice on anti-money laundering, anti-bribery and taxation policies for the wider business
- Provide relevant training to ensure quality assurance and accountability across the organisation and ensure that training needs are identified and shared
- Drafting and negotiating commercial transactions
- Sale/purchase agreements for both goods and services
- Distributor/agency agreements
- Joint development agreements
- Contractor terms and various deals
- Point of escalation on insurance, liability, IPR and operational risks
- Maintain a manual of required policies and procedures and monitor compliance in-line with the Global business’ obligations to their policies and procedures
You
A passionate and enthusiastic mid-level commercially minded lawyer who can offer value to the business by excelling in the area of stakeholder management. Prior experience in Renewables, Manufacturing, Energy or Oil & Gas would be beneficial, however all candidates with relevant commercial contracts experience are encouraged to apply.
