Legal Research and Development Assistant
About the role:
We are looking for a candidate who has excellent research and analytical skills to become part of our team dealing with the development of new concepts to be brought to market as new claim types.
The role will focus primarily on undertaking legal research, considering the legal and practical issues that may arise in bringing the claims and obtaining external opinion on the legal and commercial merits of the proposed new claim type in order to prepare a briefing pack for consideration and approval by the board of directors. A candidate will be required to work independently and as part of a team reporting to Head of Department.
In addition, a candidate will also be responsible for undertaking background research in relation to any new concepts that are proposed to the business from outside sources and will be expected to participate in providing technical support in relation to existing claim types.
This role is ideal for a candidate who is open minded, forward thinking and is comfortable with working independently as well as part of a wider team of personnel working towards a common goal.
Job Description:
Pure Legal Limited is seeking an individual experienced in the field of research and development within the legal sector to provide support and assistance in developing new claim types to be brought to market, supplementing what is already a busy and varied practise dealing in various types of complex civil litigation.
The ideal candidate must have a background in the law and should have previous experience in undertaking research and development duties in previous roles, however, this is not essential. Candidates should be able to demonstrate excellent research and analytical skills and should possess a high level of awareness which will enable the individual to identify whether a concept is capable of being successful from both a legal and commercial perspective.
Successful candidates will be required to be proactive in researching and developing new concepts to be brought to market. In addition, a candidate will also be required to critically consider any business opportunities that are put forward from outside sources so that an informed decision can be taken on the viability of bringing the idea to market and also provide assistance in delivering “troubleshooting” support in relation to existing claim types.
Responsibilities shall include:
- Utilising research abilities in order to identify any relevant statutory and case law jurisprudence that requires consideration within the process of developing a new product
- Utilising a range of means to source material including online legal research directories and law libraries
- Collating and analysing a wide range of materials for use when developing new products
- Attending external conferences and seminars to assist in keeping up to date with relevant legal developments to assist in identifying new areas of law to be considered for development
- Preparation of detailed written notes and records to justify any recommendation made to move ahead with development of a new claim type
- Preparation of briefing packs for use in explaining new concepts to the board of directors and obtaining board level approval to move to the next stage of development
- Assisting the Training and Development team in putting together training packs for use in educating staff in relation to new claim types that are successful in being signed off the board of directors
- Creation and end user testing of case management modules and accompanying documents for use in conjunction with any new claim types that are successful in being selected for launch into the legal market
- Providing technical support (troubleshooting) in relation to existing products
- Meeting deadlines and targets in a timely and efficient manner
Requirements:
- Strong communication skills – both written and spoken
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Strong organisational skills
- An aptitude for the law
- A basic understand of the principles of law and procedures used when bringing claims within the County Court and High Court
- Ability to review and consider a large number of documents and extract the relevant information for use in making a decision on whether a concept is viable
- Strong IT skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook essential
- Adaptability to change and tolerance to working in a fast past environment
Qualifications/Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in Law is essential
- Research and project management experience is desirable but not required
