Our client a busy Local Authority based in the North West area, are seeking a Lawyer to join their Planning Department for an initial three month assignment with the strong possibility of extension.
This is an exciting opportunity to handle an interesting and varied workload and provide advice and support to Planning and Highways Officers, Councillors and the public. You will be asked to attend Court to represent the Council on prosecutions, to assist on Planning Inquiries and Judicial Reviews, to draft summonses, legal orders, instructions to Counsel, agreements and enforcement notices and generally represent the interests of a local authority client.
You will work closely with the Head of Legal and the existing Planning and Highways Team to develop and grow the team, including the supervision of trainee solicitors and paralegals.
The successful Planning Lawyer will be required to demonstrate recent experience in Planning Law as the majority of the work will be at a complex level.
This role will include delivering legal support for drafting and negotiating bi or tri party (with local LPAs) development agreements (principally section 106 but can include s278 and other statutory agreements for development sites) for the County Council's statutory roles as education authority, highway authority and mineral and waste planning authority. It is fast moving and needs good case management skills, ability to communicate effectively with officers and LPA representatives as well as good drafting and negotiating skills.
