My client is a leading UK mechanical and electrical subcontractor which has experienced massive business growth over the past 5 years with a 60% increase of revenue. The company has a number of major London based projects which acts for 70% of business revenue while the remainder is regional projects, and overseas in Finland and Belgium.
You will report to the Head of Legal who is keen to hire a commercial lawyer to help negotiate/manage commercial contracts across the business and to help develop and implement processes, procedures and training to reduce their risk and improve profitability on projects. This opportunity is a very broad commercial role where you'll work autonomously on interesting legal work, ranging from Standard Construction contracts e. JCTs, Terms of Business, Supply Chain Contracts, Guarantees and Bonds. An increase volume of work is focused on data centres where you will advise the company directors on numerous legal and commercial matters. The job title will be "Commercial Manager" not Legal Counsel as this company likes their legal team to come across more commercially minded rather than purely focusing on the legal aspects.
The ideal candidate will UK Qualified (4-5pqe) with a mix of Private Practice and In-house with excellent general commercial law experience gained from the construction industry, however a construction background is not essential. Candidates working for a reputable law firm with in-house secondment experience will be considered. Must have good law firm training and show confidence with a natural ability to be pragmatic and deliver commercial solutions. Great career progression is on offer.
