Legal Adviser - Education regulator - 6 month role

Your new company
A non-departmental public body of the Department for Education, acting as the regulator and competition authority for the higher education sector in England. Due to growth within the Legal team, they are currently seeking an interim lawyer to lead on, or assist with, the provision of legal advice and support for a broad range of legal matters. It is a six month post with the possibility of extension.

Your new role
As the Legal Adviser, you will be support the Head of Legal Services and act as lead lawyer within the organisation on a wide range of legal matters running in parallel. You will advise and support on legislation relating to the higher education sector, public law principles, human rights law and consumer protection law. You will also advise and support procurement and contractual matters, including drafting and/or reviewing contract terms and conditions and data protection and information law, including legislation implementing the GDPR and the Freedom of information Act 2000. You will work closely and effectively with the legal team and develop their knowledge on key legal/regulatory issues.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for the role, you should be a solicitor or barrister qualified to practise in the UK (or a lawyer with a similar qualification in a country with a common law jurisdiction and a right to work in the UK). Candidates from NQ - 4 PQE are encouraged to apply. Experience working for a regulatory body and experience working on legal issues relevant to the higher education sector are desirable, but not essential. Experience of public law matters, working on litigation cases involving judicial review and/or regulatory appeals and UK consumer protection law are essential. Finally, you should must be available to start a role at short notice.
