Your new role
The Head of Intellectual Property will drive the Intellectual Property (IP) strategy of the organisation as well as encouraging and supporting external stakeholders, where necessary, to adopt best IP practice. The role requires the ability to assimilate large volumes of scientific information in diverse biological fields alongside commercial awareness to allow the Head of Business Development to make recommendations upon the strategic direction of projects and corporate strategy.
What you'll need to succeed
To provide this level of input, it is preferable that the Head of Intellectual Property will have many years of practical experience of working with and protecting IP. This can be through (as an example) working for a technology transfer organisation, or by being a qualified Patent Attorney. The role will manage and oversee the organisation's IP from identification, drafting patent applications, managing patent applications through examination to final grant and ongoing maintenance of a patent portfolio. In addition, the role will be pivotal in advising upon the structure of IP licensing terms within a variety of contracts such as service agreements, in and out licenses and collaboration agreements.
