Employment / General Litigation Role Salisbury

We are looking for a 5-10 years’ PQE employment Solicitor or senior Legal Executive with some general litigation experience for our Salisbury office. Knowledge and experience of data protection legislation is also essential.

We act for private individuals, small to medium companies, and charities, and have at present a small but varied employment practice which we would like to see expand significantly.

The role will therefore include the development of a department and the successful candidate will need to be able to work competently without supervision from the start, and generate new business through marketing and networking.

As the firm acts as the Diocesan Registry for two large dioceses of the Church of England, the successful applicant will also be involved with advising and supporting HR department staff in both dioceses in ecclesiastical employment law issues, but no experience of this aspect is required as relevant specialist training in ecclesiastical aspects will be provided. If the candidate is interested in becoming involved in the wider ecclesiastical practice within the firm this would be encouraged. Solicitor applicants who are communicant members of the Church of England and interested to work in this area may be considered for appointment as deputy registrar in due course, to move into a very interesting and wide ranging specialist practice. (Only solicitors may be appointed to act as registrars or deputy registrars).

The candidate can be considered for part time or full time - full time will depend on level of experience and willingness to create a department and also to become involved in wider Registry work.

Salary Bracket: £35 - £55,000 (depending on experience and level of intended involvement in the firm- part time pro-rata)

Further information

The firm needs assistance with its own data control and to advise clients on data protection when requested, and the Registry needs data protection advice to be given to parishes and diocesan staff, clergy and lay. The candidate will need to be able to handle Data Subject Access requests received by dioceses or parishes, sometime in respect of multidisciplinary safeguarding issues with data sharing and gravely important confidentiality concerns.

The candidate should have employment tribunal experience and may be able to represent clients, but otherwise instruct counsel on occasions if needed.

We are a small firm with 28 of us in total over two offices- the main office in Salisbury and a smaller but growing office in Chippenham. The role is Salisbury based. Each member fits into the firm well, so it is important for the candidate to meet us and see our offices, the city and area, and our dogs- we have six extremely well-behaved dogs in the firm between the two offices, so the candidate will need not to have any allergy to or fear of dogs. If the successful candidate wishes to bring a dog to work, this would be welcomed, so long as it is similarly well-behaved. We find having dogs in our offices is enjoyed by both staff and clients and is a real plus for our working environment.
