A major global company is looking to add a Legal Counsel to their in-house team in Tokyo, Japan for a full-time, permanent contract. Reporting to the head of legal and compliance for Japan, the In-House Counsel will be supporting the business units with diverse transactions.
Responsibilities of your new role
The primary responsibilities of your new Legal Counsel role will include:
- Providing general legal advice, guidance and direction to the Market including litigation or disputes, corporate governance, labour, employment and regulatory matters
- Leading legal support on deals and business opportunities including drafting, deal structuring and negotiating contracts with customers and relevant third parties; providing input into Statements of Compliance (SOC); providing input to the contract risk assessment processes; attending the contract approval and validation meetings in accordance with company process; cooperating closely with the bid team, head of sales, Project Contract Management and other business stakeholders on deals
- Providing legal support to and working closely with Group Legal & Compliance, Legal Specialists, Business Group Counsels and other divisions
- Working closely with Ethics & Compliance to drive compliance initiatives and programs in the Market Unit
- Efficiently managing engagement of external counsels and legal costs within the CO L&C budget
- Supporting the development of business teams by providing legal training
Candidate requirements
To fill this Legal Counsel vacancy, the business is looking to speak with individuals who demonstrate:
- Training / qualification from a top tier corporate / commercial law firm
- Excellent academic record and working references / credentials
- Fluency in English and Japanese
- Flexibility to travel as needed
- Experience in general ethics and compliance matters, familiarity with Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and European anti-corruption laws (or commitment to develop skills/knowledge in this area)
- 5+ years of PQE
